A public art installation on the ocean

On View August 10-Sept 11, 2026
Floating in Dorchester Bay near Fox Point Boat Deck and Pavilion

perfect memory is a floating public art project on the ocean. The work is inspired by the ocean as a place for spirits, a theory of water by Toni Morrison (from which this projects’ title draws), and my own experience in the creation of this piece - that all visions are really a type of returning*. The work emerged from being held by the ocean after a loss. And then while imagining my own rituals, an uncovering of grief practices from Taiwan ~ a vision that was a returning * ~. The installation embraces water as a space for remembrance, imagination, and giving gratitude to those who dreamed us here.
The work launched from Carson Beach on August 10th, 2026 during the 4th annual Dream + Rest Activation organized by Department of Public Imagination (a public art project by Dzidzor Azaglo and crystal bi). From there, the work was towed to a moorning site next to Fox Point Boat Deck and Pavilion to float for the next month. After its outdoor exhibition, perfect memory will be on view as the center of a solo-exhibition at University Hall Gallery at UMass Boston.

Visitors may view the work as it floats in the water near Fox Point Boat Deck and Pavilion, August 10 - Sept 11, 2026.

perfect memory was created with the support of the Boston Triennial Public Art Accelerator and the partnership of the Arts on the Point at UMass Boston.
